Family vacations are a great way to make memories together. Twenty years ago if you wanted to go on a family vacation that usually meant camping together, getting a bunch of hotel rooms, or staying with a friend or relative.

Then the era of the Vacation Rental arrived.

Home owners (especially second home owners) started letting other families use their homes when they were not there.  It was win/win for the travelers and the home owners. Families got to stay together in a “home away from home” and home owners could use rental income to help cover mortgage costs.

With the explosive growth of vacation rentals travelers have more options now then ever before. With so many rental options some travelers have gotten used to using listing sites such as VRBO, Homeaway, and AirBnB to find a home that best suites their needs.  There are some pros and cons to using a listing site. Some of the pros include having many different options in one place. One of the big cons is having to pay high fees to the listing site.
